February 2nd-6th

FAMOUS AMERICANS:
Presentations will be this Friday,  February 6th in the morning. Parents are invited to attend.
Your child brought home their report on Friday and they need to be practicing this report so that they speak naturally during their presentation.
Please remember that you are to be preparing a costume at home for your child to wear the day of the presentation. They will need to wear their costume and bring SSA shirts (or AZK t-shirts) and jeans to change into after the presentations.

Graded Papers:
Your child will be bringing graded papers home this week (hopefully Monday or Tuesday). Please sit down with your child and correct wrong answers with a colored pencil or pen. Do not erase the original answers. These papers are to be corrected, signed, and returned by the date listed.

Headphones:
There are still several students who have not brought headphones to school. Computers and iPad are used daily in our classroom and your child desperately needs their own pair of headphones at their disposal.

Box-Tops:
Box tops are to be turned in this week. Please send any in that you may have been collecting.

100 Club Log and Book-It:
Please do not forget to log the books your child is reading nightly and initial the date on the Book-It calendar when they read for 20 or more minutes out loud to you. They will earn a free Pizza Hut pizza for reading every day.

Jan. 26th-30th

Addition & Subtraction Facts:
As we have moved into subtraction with regrouping, memorization of math facts has become extremely important. Please practice math facts with your child at home NIGHTLY. It is very evident when a child has not memorized their math facts. They are often only 1 number away from the correct answer because they tried to subtract using their fingers and miscounted. Memorizing these facts is the only way to ensure they don't continue to make these errors.

SPELLING TESTS:
Please practice your child's words work/spelling words with them nightly. They do take tests weekly and I can tell a huge difference in those students who are working at home nightly and those who are not.

FAMOUS AMERICANS:
Presentations will be February 6th in the morning. Parents are invite to attend. More information will be coming home this Friday and next Monday.
Please remember that you are to be preparing a costume at home for your child to wear the day of the presentation.
Also, they will be bringing their reports home with them on Jan. 30th (hopefully they will be finished writing them). Please make time for your child to practice presenting their report to you until they are comfortable.

100 Club Log and Book-It:
January is almost over! Please do not forget to log the books your child is reading nightly and initial the date on the Book-It calendar when they read for 20 or more minutes out loud to you. They will earn a free Pizza Hut pizza for reading every day.

Field Trip:
I still have several students who have not turned in field trip money or the permission slip. I need these asap.

FAMOUS AMERICANS:
There is a light green sheet in your child's folder today explaining our Famous Americans Project. It is your responsibility to come up with a costume for your child to wear. Please Google your child's Famous American to find out what that person would wear.

100 Club Log and Book-It:
Please do not forget to log the books your child is reading nightly and initial the date on the Book-It calendar when they read for 20 or more minutes out loud to you. They will earn a free Pizza Hut pizza for reading every day.

The dreaded 3 letter word...FLU!
The flu is running rampant this season. Many of your homes may have already been affected by this terrible illness. My mom told me last night that 26 children have already died from the flu in the past few weeks. With that being said, please, please, please help me contain this disease and help it not to spread in our school. I am including a link to a tool from Vanderbilt's Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital to help you determine if someone in your family has the flu. Many people are contagious and do not even know it.
Please do not send your child to school if they are sick in any way!

Important Info: Jan. 6th -9th

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Happy New Year and welcome back to school! I am excited to be back. Many of you know that I ended up in the hospital the last week of school with kidney stones that resulted in 2 surgeries and a long recovery. I am still not 100%, but I am much better! Thank you so much for your prayers and support and a special thank you to Ronja Roland for helping in the class while I was out.

As we start the New Year there are many important notes coming home in your child's folder. Please look for these important ones tonight:
*Field Trip Permission Slip (neon yellow)-DUE FRIDAY
*School Calendar (bright blue)
*Important School Dates (neon red)
*100 Club Log for this 9 weeks (purple)
*January Book It Calendar (white)
*Famous Americans Choices (white)-DUE WEDNESDAY
* New HOMEWORK

Field Trip Permission Slip & Money:
Your child is bringing home a neon yellow field trip permission slip. Please return this signed form and include the money for the field trip by Friday, Jan 9th. Unfortunately, we do not have room for parents to attend this field trip.

Famous Americans:
Your child will be researching and creating a presentation on a Famous American to be presented in front of the class, parents, and guests, the first part of February. They will be doing the vast part of the work in class, but will need your help with the costume. Please be thinking of this as they choose their 3 top choices tonight. Choices area listed on the form in their folder. They will need to dress like their Famous American when they make their presentation.

100 Club Log and Book-It:
Your child will be bringing home a new 100 Club Log and Book-It Calendar. Please make reading a priority in your home this year. Your child will make it a priority if you do. I can see a vast improvement in the children whose parents are helping them with their reading at home.
